Sandy asks…

will my ears stop ringing anytime soon?

i went to a concert last night. i was right next to the speaker. i also have a cold and my ears fee clogged on and off all the time. by the time the show was over i could barley hear but after a few minutes my right ear was fine but my left ear was ringing and it feels stuffy. does this mean i am going to go deaf soon, will it go away in a few days, or should i go to a doctor. im kinda worried please help me =)

James answers:

Loud concerts can cause ear ringing for the next 24 hours after event. Since you have seen this for several days, yes you should see a doctor to check out your ears. If they say all is ok, I would recommend that you bring some ear plugs with you to future concerts you attend.

My ears won’t stop ringing?

I went to a concert last night and my ears were ringing a lot after which is normal because I’ve been to some before. But now it’s still slightly ringing a day later. Is this normal?

James answers:

No see a doctor you could have damaged your eardrum or developed tinnitus

Sandra asks…

Will this ringing in my ears stop?

Well, about 5 hours ago my brother popped bubble wrap by my ear, it was really painful at the time of the incident, and my ear was ringing for about 30 seconds after. Now it rings at random times every once in a while? Is this going to stop? is this the similar case of being at a rock concert for a while or being by the speakers?

James answers:

Normally it will go away. My husband had a gun go off right next to his ear, and it was painful and was ringing for almost 2 weeks. But it did heal. As you are younger, and the noise wasn’t as loud, yours will probably be better in a few days. If not, then it’s time to see a Dr.

Mandy asks…

When will my ear stop ringing?

I went to a concert a month ago and I was standing next to a speaker. My left ear was ringing for about a week after and it stopped completely. But now almost a month later my ear has started ringing again but it has been ringing for a little over a week. Is this going to stop ever or am I stuck with this sound forever. I hope it will go away as randomly as it returned.
And sometimes it just hurts for no reason so does this mean it could be from something else and not the concert a month ago?

James answers:

Sounds like you have a bit of tinnitus.

It might be permanant, but it’ll probably gradually fade away. If not, well, sometimes ear doctors can fix the problem, but usually not.

Check it out.

Tinnitus.

Charles asks…

How I do get rid of the ringing in my ear after a loud concert?

The ringing just won’t stop, and it’s driving me nuts.

What’s are some good ways to help stop it?

James answers:

There is no way to stop it but time. Next time don’t sit or stand directly in front of one of those huge speakers. Once, after an all day outdoor concert, my ears rang for over a week.

Mandy asks…

Ringing in ears after concert.?

Went to a concert last night and I know the whole earplugs story and how loud concerts damage ears. This is the first time in a very long time, 5-6 years about, where I was caught in a loud music situation without my earplugs, and the 2nd time in my whole life. I ended up getting stuck under the big speaker for about an hour before being able to move and my left ear is ringing still. How long until it will go away? My ear was originally muffled but has since cleared up but the ringing is still there.

James answers:

It’ll stay that way for a few hours, but your hearing will never be the same ever again. You’ll have lost some sensitivity, most likely to high frequencies. If you were right next to the speaker, it’s likely you were getting 120+ dB SPL, which for a full hour will definitely damage your hearing sensitivity permanently.

Mary asks…

how long does it take fo the ringing in your ears to go away after a concert?

i was front row, it was for about 3 hours, its been about 18 hours since i left the concert

James answers:

How do you expect anyone to answer that?
It depends how loud the concert was, how close you were to the noise, and how long you were listening.

Lizzie asks…

how long does the ringing in the ears last after a concert….?

I went to Panic at the Disco concert, and I didnt expect it to be that loud…

I was near the speakers….and a lot of people were even closer than me….
I has passed like 15 hours since the concert ended….
this has been my first concert since a long , long time………..
CAN I POSSIBLY GO DEAF????

Right now I hear , but I feel the ringing in my ears…the left ear’s ringing is worse…
I dont feel pain….its just the ringing
ithe concert was pretty cool
but Im worried people!!!!!!!!!

maybe im worrying too much…

James answers:

OMGOSH don’t worry!!! I go to shows every week.. And my ears always ring the next day. I mean I am sure in the long run my hearing will get worst because of it. But yeah that is completely normal. Next time if you want wear ear plugs. You can actually hear the vocals of the singer better with ear plugs because all the distortion and stuff goes away! I am glad you had fun at the show!!! Gaah can’t wait to go to Jersey.. The music scene their ROCKS!!

Charles asks…

is it ok if my ears are ringing the day after a concert?

this has never happened to me before, how long do you suppose it will take to stop, i am slightly worried, it has been 14 hours since i left the concert
is it possible that i might have long lasting ear troubles due to this?

James answers:

I have been playing live music for 30 years and have significant hearing damage, and permanent ringing in my ears.
It’s VERY important for you and your friends to buy a pack of foam ear plugs – they sell skin colored ones at almost every drug store these days!!!
They play music RIDICULOUSLY loud these days, and even LOUDER at discos than concerts!!! Technology has advanced to where amplifiers can generate many thousands of watts each – and many DJs and soundmen’s ears are already shot anyway, so they don’t realise what damage they’re doing to others.
Use the ear plugs and get your friends to use them too – that’s if you want to be able to talk to your grandkids someday.

Sandy asks…

How long does the ringing in my ear stop after going to a concert?

I went to the Watch The Throne tour last night and after the show ended around 11:30pm, my ears were muffed up a bit and my ears were ringing, granted that is what happens after a loud concert. We weren’t right next to the hanging speakers but they were about 50-60ft away from our section. As I am typing this it is 7:44 am the next morning and my left ear is slightly muffed and it is ringing. It wasn’t as bad as last night, but the sensation is still there. How long will this last? Do I need to see my doctor? Or will it last a few days then go away?

James answers:

Doctors can not help may have damaged the inner ear could be a lifelong issue.I did the same thing about 25 years ago my right ear still ringing you get use to it.My advise would be to wear ear protection.
