Noise In The Ears

What causes noise in the ears ?

tinnitus 4There is no doubt that we live in an increasingly noisy world, unless of course you live in the Australian bush ! For most of us however the environment in which we operate is getting noisier by the day. Health and safety now insist that ear protectors are worn in all noisy work places, which is a good thing as a noisy workplace is one of the major causes of ringing in the ears or noise in the ears.

Noise in the ears can be caused by any number of things, from the physical to the mental – yes even stress can result in all the symptoms of Tinnitus or ear ringing. However the good news is that Tinnitus – for that’s what it is – is very treatable in most cases.

More good news is that noise in the ears does not need invasive surgery to sort it out – again in most circumstances. In fact often something simple like a change of diet can bring about the changes that are needed for the symptoms of tinnitus to disappear entirely.

Noisy Environment = Ringing ears:

It is without doubt that the biggest culprit when it comes to ringing ears, is in fact the environment that you either live, or work in. That is just one of the reasons that the health & safety officers insist that all employees are given ear protectors, when exposed to noisy conditions. These can be in the shape of ear plugs or actual ear mufflers. In the building trade you may often see builders walking around a site wearing not only a hard hat; but also a hard hat incorporating ear mufflers built-in.

Ear ringing and the night club!

Yes you have probably guessed it by now – noisy night clubs or disco’s are some of the worst culprits outside the workplace, for bringing on the symptoms of tinnitus. It is what is known as self- inflicted tinnitus, very common amongst teenagers and general party animals.

This type of tinnitus symptoms do not usually show up until after the party is over, and will last into the next day, or indeed many days beyond the actual event. One of the early warning signs to look out for is this period of noise in the ears to extend over time so that instead of having tinnitus symptoms for a day after the event; you will find that extending to two days, then three, then four – you get the idea I’m sure.

Even if you run the actual disco then be sure to protect yourself with ear plugs, otherwise it is almost certain that you will suffer in the long term from a tinnitus that is hard to get rid of.

Instances of ear ringing

As a builder to trade I know that some of the worst instances of noisy ears with myself, is caused by using loud machinery like a vibrating plate, or a hammer drill. I am very guilty of not wearing protectors – a bad habit I got into in the early days. Consequently whenever I am confronted by the least bit of prolonged noise, I suffer the effects of tinnitus – ringing ears or simply a rushing noise.

summary:

Do not follow my early example, and always wear ear protectors. The alternative is to suffer from ‘white noise’ or many kinds of  ear noises, far simpler to wear protectors! If this advice comes too late, then check out this Cure For Tinnitus for a holistic or natural remedy for tinnitus.
